An AED Guide to HeartSine Defibrillators

An AED Guide to HeartSine Defibrillators

When shopping for an AED (automated external defibrillator) for your home, school or workplace, it’s important to know who the best manufacturers on the market are and what they have to offer. This not only ensures that you get a high-quality product, but that you can also rely on easy access to customer support, spares and replacement parts. Today, we’re doing a short guide to HeartSine defibrillators.

Who is HeartSine?

Unless you’ve bought AEDs before, you probably haven’t heard of HeartSine. However, this UK-based company is one of the most established and highly-recognised innovators in this field of medical technology!

The company was co-founded by Professor John Anderson, who was passionate about developing the world’s first mobile defibrillator and bringing AED technology out of the hospital and into the homes, workplaces and public spaces where sudden cardiac arrests (SCAs) were occurring. In order to achieve this, Anderson led the newly-founded biomedical engineering group at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and established the first mobile coronary care unit in 1966.

The first mobile defibrillator developed was hardly portable at 50kgs, but it could be installed in an ambulance and transported to the patient, which results in significant improvements in the outcomes for patients of SCA. With the value of the mobile defibrillator firmly established, Professor John Anderson co-founded HeartSine to further evolve the concept and technology of the portable defibrillator.

Today, this cumbersome unit has evolved into some of the most compact, lightweight and user-friendly AEDs on the market!

HeartSine Defibrillator Technology

So, let’s take a look at the different products offered by this particular manufacturer.

The HeartSine, defibrillators range are by far one of the best AEDs on the market. The machines are simple to use, high quality, light weight just under 1.3kgs. The entire range offer one set of pads/battery to be replaced once every four years after each use (rather considerable shelf life in comparison to others). It comes with an 8-year guarantee, has an exceptional IP56 rating (very good dust and water resistance.)

HeartSine Samaritan PAD 500P is Semi-Automatic with the high performance CPR capability

With visual and voice prompt plus this product offers real-time feedback on CPR force and rate during the emergency treatment process, helping keep CPR as effective as possible.  This is a great product if you are required to carried out CPR for an extendecd period of time for example if there is a delay in the ambulance response time.

HeartSine Samaritan PAD 360P is a Fully-Automatic machine

This is a very simple and user-friendly option that requires minimal action by the rescuer in order to treat SCA emergencies. The machine has visual and voice prompt, Just turn the machine on with a fully automatic shock delivery (no need to push the shock button yourself). Many people prefer this option as the shock is delivered by the AED with no need for the rescuer to press a button. The voice prompts will tell you that a shock is needed, and then give you a countdown so that you and other rescuers can break contact with the patient before the shock is applied.

HeartSine Connected Samaritan PAD 350P is a Semi-Automatic machine.

This is the semi-automated has visual and voice prompt. The only difference between the 360P and 350P is that the semi-automatic AED requires the rescuer to press a button to supply the shock. The voice prompts will inform you that a shock is needed so that you have time to move everyone clear of the patient, and then you can apply the shock using a simple button.

HeartSine Samaritan PAD Trainers

These are training devices that mimic the trainees through the process of working and applying a HeartSine Samaritan AED. They are designed to give you an accurate idea of the look and feel of the actual AED, but there are no charge or shock capabilities. These trainers comply with AED training guidelines and can be an essential aspect in terms of compliance, emergency training and First Aid training courses, much like using a First Aid dummy to practice CPR and emergency rescue techniques.
