How It Works
How It Works
(1) Enhancing CPR Confidence and Effectiveness:
The CPR Helper is engineered to bolster a bystander’s
confidence in performing CPR. It provides an audible “click” to signal when chest compressions reach the correct depth of 5–6 cm, crucial for effective CPR. This feedback ensures that compressions and necessary chest recoil occur properly, creating the negative pressure needed to refill the heart with blood.
(2) Reducing Injury Risk:
By distributing the force of compressions over a larger surface area, the CPR Helper minimizes the risk of rib injuries to the patient, making the process safer.
(3) Increasing Bystander Comfort:
The device acts as a physical barrier between the bystander and the patient, which can make the rescuer more willing to perform CPR by reducing direct contact.
(4) Leveraging Training Experience:
The CPR Helper’s audible click mimics the feedback mechanism used in training manikins, helping bystanders apply their CPR training effectively by drawing on muscle memory.
Feedback Mechanism for Quality Control:
If a compression does not elicit a “click” sound, it indicates insufficient force, prompting the bystander to adjust their efforts. The “clack” sound, heard when allowing the chest and device to fully recoil, confirms the creation of necessary negative pressure in the chest. This feedback loophelps maintain the quality and consistency of CPR,addressing common issues such as inadequate compression depth asignificant challenge noted in studies where many bystanders fail to achieve effective compression depths.
By ensuring the correct depth and rhythm of compressions, the CPR Helper not only enhances the quality of bystander CPR but
also sustains its effectiveness until emergency services can take over.
FAQs
FAQs
What is the purpose of the CPR Helper?
The CPR Helper assists bystanders in performing effective CPR by providing real-time feedback on compression depth and frequency.
How does it work?
The device emits an audible “click” when the correct compression depth (5–6 cm) is achieved, guiding users to apply the appropriate force.
Why is the CPR Helper necessary?
It ensures that bystanders deliver high-quality CPR, which is critical for increasing survival rates in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
Does the device require significant force to activate the ‘click’ sound?
Yes, a strong push is necessary to reach the recommended compression depth, ensuring effective CPR.
Can the CPR Helper be used over clothing?
Yes, it can be effectively used over clothing without compromising performance.
Why include the CPR Helper in a Cardio Emergency Kit?
It enhances the quality of CPR delivered by bystanders, making it a valuable addition to emergency preparedness.
Is the device suitable for use on a table or only on the floor?
While it’s designed for use on the floor, it can also be used on a firm table surface if necessary.
What are the benefits over conventional manual CPR?
The device provides consistent feedback, helping maintain proper compression depth and rate, which can be challenging to achieve manually.
Has the CPR Helper been used in hospitals?
Yes, it has been utilized in clinical settings and has undergone trials in various countries, including Germany, Iran, and the USA.
Why is the CPR Helper a single-use product?
The CPR Helper has to be replaced once used in a real emergency. The reason for this is not material fatigue, but the liquid absorbing properties of the foam. These properties serve the purpose of guaranteeing a secure position on the patient’s chest by soaking up the commonly occurring cold sweat (or other bodily fluids e.g. blood, vomit etc.). This aspect of hygiene and the fact that it is maintenance-free, are the reasons to dispose of the product and purchase a new one after use in an emergency. The Cardio First Angel can be used for practice or training purposes without any problems.
Does the surface the patient is lying on affect its performance?
Yes, using the device on a firm surface is recommended to ensure effective compressions. Soft surfaces like mattresses may reduce its efficacy.
Is there an age limitation for using the CPR Helper?
It is recommended for individuals aged 16 and above.
Warranty
Warranty
5-Year Warranty
CPR Helper is dedicated to delivering reliable, high-quality CPR support devices. We proudly offer a 5-year warranty from the date of purchase, covering any defects in materials or workmanship under normal use conditions.
Annual Testing Recommendation
To maintain confidence in your CPR Helper’s performance, we recommend testing the device once a year. Simply place the device on a CPR manikin or a flat, firm surface and apply downward pressure. A clear “click” confirms the compression feedback mechanism is functioning correctly. Releasing the pressure should produce a “clack”, indicating full recoil and proper operation.
Single-Use Device Notice
The CPR Helper is intended for single use during a real-life resuscitation. During use, exposure to skin contact and moisture can affect the integrity of the foam component. Once used in an actual emergency, the device has fulfilled its purpose and must be replaced. Such use is not covered under this warranty.
Warranty Exclusions
This warranty does not cover:
- Damage resulting from misuse, abuse, modification, or neglect
- Normal wear and tear
- Use for training or in non-emergency scenarios
- Failures caused by not performing the recommended annual testing
